For more than fifteen years, people have been writing about the “end” of job boards. And yet, up until 2023, these were actually boom years: the market was growing and job boards played a central role in the recruitment landscape. Over the past two years, however, this picture has fundamentally shifted. Due to a cooling labor market, the increasingly dominant position of LinkedIn and Indeed in recruitment budgets, and changing search and orientation behavior among candidates, the traditional job board model is under heavy pressure.
Organizations that continue to approach job boards from a traditional perspective will, unless they operate in a very sharp niche with an extremely low cost structure, likely have to slowly close their digital doors in the coming years. The expectation is that by around 2030, approximately 90% of today’s job boards will have disappeared.
