Navigating the war for contingent talent: how strategy, scale and data reshape workforce decisions

At the upcoming Global Talent Strategy & Intelligence Conference, Anthony Holly will offer a sharp look into the realities of contingent workforce management. With more than a decade of experience advising multinational organizations, Holly’s perspective blends behavioural science, data intelligence and pragmatic execution.

“We’re not recruiters”

During the interview, he jokes that no one really understands what his team does. “We’re not recruiters. We manage the process around contingent hiring, from benchmarking markets to advising on workforce strategy.” As senior director of strategic advisory at Magnit, Holly’s team operates globally and often acts as a sounding board for companies struggling with the balance between speed, quality and cost.

Flexibility vs. complexity

The growing demand for flexibility has pushed many organisations to rethink how they attract and manage temporary labour. But in doing so, they often encounter a familiar challenge: urgency leads to complexity, and complexity leads to inefficiency.

“We talk a lot about cost, quality and speed. Conventional wisdom says: pick two. We try to challenge that idea, but you need structure, insight and scale to make it work.”

Insights that drive better decisions

Holly’s team supports decision-makers with cross-client insights into labour market trends and contingent workforce dynamics. From supply chain disruptions to regional salary shifts, the broader context is always shifting. “What works in the Bay Area may not work in Poland. And sometimes you don’t need local talent at all, you just need the skills.”

His philosophy is clear: let companies do what they are good at and bring in experts for the rest. “You don’t have to become a labour market expert to hire a software engineer. But you do need to know what that hire will cost you tomorrow and what it should cost you today.”
