Who are Romania's most favourite employers? The ninth largest country in the European Union

Romania has many cultures, languages and religions. It has the seventh largest population and is the ninth largest country in the European Union. The population includes Romanians, Hungarians, Germans and also the Roma (gypsies). There are about 20 million inhabitants of which 2.6 million live in Bucharest. Bucharest is the capital of Romania and the tenth largest city of the European Union. Economically, Bucharest is Romania's most prosperous city and one of Eastern Europe's most important industrial centres and transport hubs. As the most developed city in Romania, Bucharest also has a large number of educational facilities. We like to look from an (international) labour market perspective and have found out which employers are the most popular among the Romanian labour force.

Microsoft number one

In the top 10 there are many international companies with number one Microsoft, number two is for Google and Orange is in third place. Furthermore, we see that telephone providers follow T-Mobile and Vodafone. In sixth place is Petrom. Petrom is a Romanian integrated oil company. It is the largest company in Romania and the largest oil and gas producer in Southeast Europe employing some 13,000 people. Petrom has been around for over 160 years and was one of the first oil companies in the world. Characteristics for working at Petrom are: international opportunities in a challenging industry, but also meaningful work. Their motto is 'creating jobs to create the future'.

If we look further at the most favourite employers, we see South Korean Samsung as one of the largest electronics companies in the world. Followed by Contintental, a German manufacturer of tyres, braking systems and other vehicle components. Coca Cola and Amazon are in ninth and tenth place.

There is only one Romanian company in the top 10

The most striking thing about the favourite employers in Romania is the fact that there is only one Romanian company among them. The other companies are all international companies that are known almost all over the world. This fits well with the mixed population that does not only consist of Romanians. As a Romanian and international employer, are you looking for talent in Romania? Then it is good to know what the target group thinks is important when finding a job and working in Romania. The white paper 'Candidate Experience in Europe' elaborates on this.
